FAQs

  • ATW Firearms Instruction currently has two locations. We teach classes both Central Virginia and Connecticut. We are also available as guest instructors for your next even. Contact us at atw.firearms@gmail.com for more information.

  • That is totally fine! At ATW it doesn’t matter if you’ve never even held a gun before or if you’ve been shooting for years, we work with people of all skill levels and specialize in working with new shooters.

More advanced classes may require prior shooting experience. If this is the case, it will be stated in the class description.

  • You do not need to bring your own gun to class unless the description specifically says so. Our “Introduction to…” classes will always have guns and ammunition available for a small usage fee.

  • Absolutely not. At ATW Firearms Instruction we happily instruct anyone and everyone in the safe use of firearms for self defense or as a hobby. We do insist that everyone signs and abides by our non-discrimination policy as ATW is a safe, open, and inclusive space.

  • ATW does not have an official age cut off. We believe that there are age appropriate things that can be taught to everyone. Our instructors have experience working with people of all ages. We also believe that parents are the best ones to know their child’s level of maturity and ask that the child be mature enough to handle the responsibility of learning about firearm safety.

  • Yes, all classes with ATW Firearms Instruction (including group and private lessons) work on a sliding scale payment basis, no questions asked. Times are hard for everyone right now, and at ATW we believe that money should not be a barrier to learning to defend yourself and those you love.

The scheduling system on the site won’t allow for sliding scale payments, so please contact us directly to schedule and make arrangements.

  • Yes it is! At ATW Firearms Instruction, we do not believe that price should be an obstacle to learning to defend yourself. We always keep a couple of seats open in each group class which are funded through full price classes, merchandise sales, and generous donations.
